About AFIWI

Our name reflects a simple belief: strong communities are built when people have a place to belong, contribute, learn, and lead.

AFIWI was established in 2019 following conversations with African diaspora leaders about persistent social and economic barriers affecting Black and other underserved communities in Canada. Those conversations identified a need for community-rooted solutions that build on people's strengths, lived experience, culture, and capacity to lead change.

Who we serve

AFIWI's programs are designed primarily for Black and underserved communities in Toronto and the GTA. Eligibility varies by program.

How we work

  1. We listen to participants with lived experience.

  2. We co-design practical, culturally responsive programs.

  3. We work with qualified facilitators and trusted partners.

  4. We track participation, experience, learning, and longer-term outcomes.

  5. We use evidence and community feedback to improve future delivery.

Accountability

We are honest about what we can deliver, responsible with resources, and committed to learning from results.
